Being high on methamphetamine and finding yourself in the middle of a SWAT standoff sounds like a terrifying experience guaranteed to make you shit your pants. Fortunately for one Houston man, though, the SWAT team sent in a robot police dog to handle the situation, and the results are… unexpected.

Police were called to a motel in southeast Houston earlier this week with reports of a weapons disturbance — apparently, the suspect was walking to different rooms with a pistol and what appeared to be a large knife, perhaps a machete.
When officers arrived at the motel and tried to make contact, the suspect began screaming, and at one point, opened the door holding what police thought might have been a weapon. As a result, they called in the big guns: a SWAT team, complete with robot dog.
Footage taken in the early morning hours shows the dog at the man’s door before he opens the door and drags the robot police dog into his room, determined to do who knows what with it.
The robot’s name is SPOT, and it’s been used “on multiple high-risk scenes in which it was able to eliminate a large part of the danger associated with searching homes and buildings.”
Commenters had a field day with the footage, with one writing, “Warms my heart. Another forever home found.” Others were less optimistic, with many pointing out that the dog tried to run away before being robo-dognapped. Many were concerned about what the man wanted to do to the robot, with one person writing, “Someone call SVU.”
Let’s not even go there.
Thankfully, SPOT was recovered a few hours later after the suspect was taken into custody. The suspect was later charged with three counts of aggravated assault with a pistol. There is no word on whether or not SPOT is receiving counseling for his ordeal, but we hope he has a good (boi?) support system of robotic animals around him.
